Today is one of the biggest days of my professional life.
Me & @phil_hellmuth, heads up, for 100K. I’ve prepared for this as much as a human being possibly could prepare. I truly believe I’m going to win.
Pre-show at 7:30pm ET & cards in the air at 8pm ET all on @PokerGO

One last bit of psychological warfare before the match with @phil_hellmuth begins. pic.twitter.com/8pTByXJMi3

Controversy right before the match begins! @phil_hellmuth is claiming he only agreed to 30-minute blind levels, while it’s set up for 20-minute levels.
He’s threatening to walk if I don’t agree with 30-minute levels!
— nick wright (@getnickwright) July 28, 2021
I decided to agree to 30-minute blinds. The fact that we are arguing about blind structure tells me that Phil’s already tilted. I think I can jump out to an early lead. Let’s see. Cards in the air in 2 minutes https://t.co/qMr9jMGizc

I just told my first totally unnecessary lie of the match. I plan to lie basically pathologically this entire match. Should set me up better for Match 2 vs Phil.

End of the first hour… I’m leading @phil_hellmuth 61K to 39K. Feeling great about how I’ve played so far. Stuck to my gameplan. Rest of match live on @PokerGO
— nick wright (@getnickwright) July 29, 2021
Was up 72k-28k before the final hand before this break… then I tricked off 7k.
Still feeling really good about how it’s gone. 65k-35k my way after the first 3 levels.
— nick wright (@getnickwright) July 29, 2021
I just turned quad queens… Phil bluffed two streets, including big on the river. 67K-33K my way with blinds about to raise to 200-400. 2 hours in.
Going strong on @PokerGO
— nick wright (@getnickwright) July 29, 2021
Really brutal 250-500 level by me. Did everything wrong. Flipped the match from 67k-33k my way to 70k-30k @phil_hellmuth’s way.
Short break where I get to try to compose myself.
Still think we are in for a long night but I gotta play much better.
— nick wright (@getnickwright) July 29, 2021
No chance I’m throwing in the towel. I made this as hard as I could have on myself by how I played that last level.
But there’s a lot of poker left. And I’ve got 50 big blinds left. I think we are going to be here a while.
— nick wright (@getnickwright) July 29, 2021
Somehow this is still going… @phil_hellmuth did what he said he was going to do & grinded me down, but I’m still alive. We are at 500-1K blinds, Phil is up 80k-20k.
— nick wright (@getnickwright) July 29, 2021
We have now entered level 10. I am delirious. Somehow still alive. @phil_hellmuth is definitely sick of me. I think I’ve got one more run in me.

Battled for 6 hours. Played some of the best (and a bit of the worst) poker of my life… and with the blinds at 800-1600, Phil called my check raise on the river in a 59k pot.
I had 6c7c for a 7 high flush… he had 8c5c for a 8 high flush.
Coolered & gutted.
